PowerBlock Sport 2.4 - Adjustable Dumbbells ReviewsThis is the first in a series of adjustable dumbbells reviews I will be doing, and so today I will be doing a PowerBlock Sport 2.4 review.

PowerBlocks are very popular adjustable dumbbells they come in several different weight ranges and series namely the Classic, Sport and Urethane Series. See all the PowerBlocks

The PowerBlock Sport is the PowerBlock entry level adjustable dumbbell set and does have less options than some others.

Who Is The SportBlock For?

powerblock sport 2.4 The PowerBlock SportBlock 2.4 be a good choice for those that just want to tone up. Each dumbbell weighs 24 pounds and can be adjusted in 3 pound increments. This is a good weight range for most women and for many seniors.

Although this set isn’t expandable it may be a good set for someone with heavier weights. This would be great for things like lateral raises or similar single muscle exercises.

If you want to follow an all dumbbell work out like the Old School New Body F4X Training System you will probably be OK with this to start but you may find it a bit light for some exercises.

Why Should You Use Dumbbells Instead Of  Exercise Machines?

Benefits of Dumbbell Exercises

The main benefit to using dumbbell exercises in your workout routines is that on top of exercising the main muscles, dumbbell exercises will also require the input from various stabilizing muscles as well.

This is in contrast to exercising on gym-type machines where main targeted muscles are isolated and are the only ones being utilized.

Dumbbell exercises allow complicit muscles to grow in strength together and prevent muscle groups from developing independently and out of sync. http://www.dumbbell-exercises.com/

What We Like About The PowerBlock Sport

The PowerBlock Sport 2.4 has over 140 reviews on Amazon and a 4.6 out of 5 stars rating. There are very few negative reviews on this product because it is a quality American made product.

  • We like how compact this adjustable dumbbell set is and the fact it replaces 16 single dumbbells.
  • Changing weights is easy with the attached selector pin and works a lot like a stack weight in a commercial gym where you move a pin to select your weight.
  • We like the idea of a padded handle that protects people with weak wrists. Also these dumbbells are very easy and comfortable to hold. They have a handle just like regular dumbbells but with a rubber covering over it.
  • 15 year home use warranty

Here is what some PowerBlock users are saying about the Sport 2.4

“I really like this product because it is compact and not as cumbersome as the larger sets. For most people, this will suit their needs and they can get an upgradable set later on. The small size allows almost everyone to perform conventional exercises with proper form. With the larger PowerBlocks, this is a concern because of added bulk and length.”

“I love these weights! Such a time saver and they actually didn’t clank or feel unstable. Glad I purchased it”

“This is a really unique and space saving way to have hand weights at home. I like that they are easy to use.”

What We Don’t Like About The SportBlock

Some users have said they had trouble inserting the pin on a carpet because the weights sink in. Well they do say it works fine on a hard surface and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t designed to sit on a rug.

Some users commented that you can put the selector pin in wrong if you aren’t paying attention. Any time you are lifting weights you should definitely be paying attention!

The biggest downside to this product is really the fact it cant be expanded. While 24 pounds each might be fine for some exercises it wouldn’t really be enough for squats. However this size will work well for many and serious weight trainers can use it as a lighter secondary set after they outgrow it.

PowerBlock Sport 2.4 Review Summary

The PowerBlock 2.4 is a good entry level adjustable dumbbell set. It is well made and will give many years of service. It’s smaller size will make it easier for some to exercise, and if you have wrist problems it will be easier to use than larger dumbbells like the Bowflex SelectTech.

The PowerBlock 2.4 will be a good size for women or seniors who just want to tone up. If you want to actually build muscle you will find yourself soon outgrowing the PowerBlock Sport. That’s because there’s no expansion kit for this model. I think this is a perfect starter set. But buy this knowing you may want to upgrade later.

If you are serious about taking your weight training up a level or if you are already working out and are looking for a new set of adjustable dumbbells I would recommend spending a bit more money and going with either the 50,70 or 90 PowerBlock Elite Set.
